Semiotic Analysis of a Trailer
I am going to do a semiotic analysis of a film that has a similar genre to the film i am going to make this film will be legend as it has similar points to the film showing both crime and thriller parts to it.
Institution:
Hollywood film set in London
Universal are distributors
Tom Hardy is a huge actor from Hollywood with blockbusters
such as Batman Dark knight, Mad Max and inception
Genre:
This trailer conveys conventions from mainly action crime
and thriller.
Action- the fast action packed musicCrime- Mob fights in a local pub
Thriller- Reggie bringing out gun in a bar.
Representation:
This Trailer shows that men are more dominant over women.
Women seen to be naive and simple with a typical London accent.
The only people fighting are males; there are no scenes
where the females fight.
The higher people are in the gang line the better dressed
they are.
Audience:
There is a very mainstream appeal as it’s a Hollywood film.
It appeals to the British society as the film is based
there.
Special effects and good editing skills to make the fights
look believable.
Media values:
It can be Upper class thriller seekers, but also could be
for lower class as there are both classes in it.
Violence is very prevalent in this type of society.
Men as criminals and protectors.
Narrative:
There’s a voice over for the introduction of the Kray twins,
and opening the story.
It’s very similar to the Hollywood structure of two main characters
fighting.
